Cancer currently affects 1 in every 3 people in the UK at some point during their life. By 2020 it is forecast to increase to 1 in every 2 people, due to better diagnosis of cancer along with an ageing population.
Weston Park Hospital is one of only four specialist cancer hospitals in England and treats patients from all over South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire – a population of almost 1.8million people. The hospital treats more than 60,000 patients every year.
Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity is the only dedicated charity for the hospital and exists to support the world-class cancer research and to improve the treatment and care for people living with cancer.
Throughout 2014, the Cancer Charity is marking its 20th anniversary by funding a wide variety of projects for the hospital, including the completion of the new Clinical Research Unit and the Day Case reception refurbishment.
The charity needs to raise over £2 million this year to fund a wide range of projects that will keep Weston Park Hospital at the forefront of cancer treatment.
